I started documentation and bullet points for the four new Web Architects sites.

The text obviously needs a lot more work. And apologies for the layout - I copied from Microsoft Word so the formatting is just awful.

What do you think?

Who are Web Architects?

Web Architects is a provider of Internet services. Web architects run the traditional hosting services like shared web servers, virtual machines and co-location. However, despite the name, Web Architects do a lot more than just design web-based services - the organization designs, builds and operates Internet infrastructure in the UK and Iceland. Web Architects provide everything necessary for their customers’ Internet operations.

Web Architects is a co-op

Web Architects is a worker co-operative organization. Providing a comprehensive portfolio of Internet Technology is not what makes Web Architects special – it’s the Web Architects focus on what’s important. A limited liability company is formed for profit, so its duty is to focus on money. A worker co-operative is formed for mutual benefit, so its focus is on social responsibility.

Web Architects provides open, clear pricing. Income is essential to Web Architects, but the focus of Web Architects work is not on profit margin – it’s on building trust with its customers by providing high quality Internet services. Marketing costs, magic discounts and loss leaders are not included.

The ‘worker co-operative’ status of Web Architects makes it more appealing to like-minded organizations – many not-for-profit groups such as ESSU, the Regather Trading Co-operative and Transition Network are long-standing customers.

High security

Activist-level security is standard. Web Architects protects the rights of its customers by building security into everything. All shared hosting includes a server certificate. All storage is encrypted. All communications are protected. For customers who value privacy, Web Architects offers hosting in the Iceland data haven.

Sustainability

Social responsibility in computing means green hardware and free software. Also, all Web Architects infrastructure is powered by clean energy.

You can be a Web Architects Co-operative Partner

Web Architects shares the load. Co-operative workers carry out infrastructure work including site hosting, operational support and workflow management. Other work is given to co-operative partners – in the past, CRM work has been passed to co-op partner http://www.mc3.coop/, Wordpress work to http://flet.org/ and Drupal work to http://agilecollective.com/.

If you would like to be a co-operative partner, sign up. Tell us what you do and we will do our best to send leads your way.

blog concerned with privacy, activism, co-ops

Create blog and regularly post content.

Webarch seem to post fairly regularly to Twitter. Maybe follow the POSSE approach (http://indiewebcamp.com/POSSE) - post to your own site first and then syndicate to proprietary silos like Twitter?

The tech to make it go is no problem, but regular content updates may be. The fresher the content, the more search-engine friendly it is. All it takes is a couple lines a day, but that's actually quite a commitment. Some people try to automate this process, but in my opinion, blog-roll-style aggregators and sites like http://paper.li/ don't do a good job.
