[Petal] [REQ] Escape HTML entities

Hi all,

This just popped up on the Pangloss list - it seems HTML entities like 
" " "·", "»", etc. get encoded before reaching the 
client, which is a bit of a shame considering they usually 'disappear' 
or look mangled in various web browsers.  Chris C. reckons this is 
because they are not XML entities, and hence get encoded by the XML 
parser.

So my question is this: is it feasible for Petal to escape XHTML 
entities so that they pass through to the delivered document as-is?
