Benefits are seen as hugely complicated and impossible to understand. How do you check that people are getting what they are entitled to at the correct rate?
Many people have little or no knowledge about benefits and if they ask the local Social Security Office theyre often not advised about the full range available.
When advising someone where do you start?
Lasa Training courses offer an easy, step-by-step approach to benefits. We cover the whole range of benefits from basic identification of relevant benefits, calculating benefits, challenging decisions when claims fail right through to the appeals system.
Courses
*Welfare Benefits Overview
Aimed at advisers who have little or no benefit knowledge, this course helps you identify which benefits your clients should be claiming, what are the basic conditions for benefits, what benefits can be paid together, how to use reference material, and how to claim benefits. A general course suitable for people working with clients of all ages and situations.
Dates: 20th July, 3rd August, 25th August, 7th September, 21st September, 7th October, 21st October.
*Income Support & Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
For people under 60 who are not working and have little or no money these benefits are a lifeline. We examine who is eligible, how to claim, and the calculation.
Dates: 9th July, 3rd August, 25th August, 29th October.
*Housing Benefit
If you work with people on a low income living in rented accommodation, this course will help you to identify whether your clients should be claiming housing benefit. We look at who is eligible, how to claim, and the calculation.
Dates: 16th July, 2nd September, 28th September, 26th October.
*Questioning benefit decisions
Despite your best efforts many benefit claims are refused incorrectly. The strict deadlines for disputing an unfavourable decision mean your clients need advice and practical help quickly if they are not to lose money. This course examines how to check whether a decision is right or wrong, what must you do to challenge a decision, and how to present a good case. If your work involves helping people to claim benefits and support them if the claim is turned down, this course will give you the skills and confidence necessary to intervene on their behalf and help establish their entitlement with the minimum of confusion and delay.
Dates: 13th July, 16th September, 19th October.
*The Social Fund
The Social Fund can provide much-needed help for people who are claiming income-related benefits (like Income Support). If you are working with people who need access to one-off sums of money, this course will help you identify if there is entitlement and improve the chances of accessing Social Fund payments. The course covers the different Social Fund payments, the main rules of entitlement, and how to make effective claims.
Dates: 5th October.
