This javascript editor looks OK:

In fact it's probably better than the BSD liciensed one in 1.8.

It probably wouldn't be much work to add it into 1.6 and also use it in
1.8.

Also on the issue of 1.6 and 1.8 compatability I have just backported
the layout (floated rather than fixed) and css and ability to upload a
logo for the site from 1.8 to 1.6.
